Medications

Determined2Heal Tips:

In this section of the website we're providing information about specific medications that have been able to help the spinal cord community during their daily lives.  If you're interested in any of these medications, remember to always check with your doctor to see if it is right for you.

Clinical / Spinal Cord Medicines

(There are many different trial spinal cord medicines out on the market.  Check with your neurologist to find out which ones they recommend or do not recommend)

Bowel Program Medications / Supplements

(Bowel program medications and supplements can make the bowel program regiment much easier and faster.  Check with your primary care physician to develop the right program for you)

Pain / Nerve Medications

(Pain and nerve medications should be used under the supervision of a medical professional.)

Anti-Spasmatic Medications / Pumps

(I do not recommend anti-spasmatic medications.  I personally view spasms as a good thing because they cause muscle contractions which helps to increase muscles, blood flow, and range of motion.  Only take anti-spasmatic medications if your spasms get in your way of your daily living.  The best type of anti-spasmatic medication is a baclofen pump.  This should be a last resort because it does involve surgery.)

Sleeping Medications

(When I was first injured I could not get any sleep in the hospital.  So my physician put me on a sleeping medication.  I was able to get off the sleeping medication when I got home from the hospital.  Sleeping medications should be a last resort and should be used only if you're not able to get an adequate amount of sleep or have trouble continuously sleeping throughout the night.  Check with your physician first)
