T1 and T9 Injuries

Functional Movement

  • Can move head, neck, arms, triceps, wrists, complete finger function
  • As the thoracic level of injury lowers, abdominal function increases

Respiratory Care

  • Cough assistance neede for higher thoracic injuries
  • Cough assistance improves with lower-level thoracic injuries

Mobility

  • Can use a manual wheelchair
  • Can perform pressure relief

Daily Living

  • Can independently perform enough tasks to live without assistance devices
  • Those with lower-level thoracic injuries can live independently without caregiving assistance
