Transporting from home to a rehabilitation center for therapy is expensive in a number of ways. The time that is lost just from traveling can be put towards living life. The expense of getting to and from rehab adds up over time. These two factors alone should motivate an individual to develop their therapies into their own homes.

I chose to look at my body and my rehab program as a long-term investment. With that type of philosophy, I am motivated and dedicated to stick to my rehab program. Bringing my program to my home will save me money in the long run. Another cool thing about building your own rehabilitation center at home is that you will have much more time to focus on life. A home therapy program should be a doable therapy program.

A good deal of the equipment described here is expensive, but in most cases insurance or a state program will assist you in paying for it. Your therapists will be happy to explain what exercises are best to do at home. The whole point of going through rehab is to create a specific therapy program that will be best suited for your recovery. Just like anyone else, you need to exercise regularly. I am happy to answer any questions about how I use this equipment at home.

Please understand that I am only recommending products that I have used and have been happy with. This should not be considered an endorsement of any particular product.

There are many good companies out there that I know nothing about, so my exclusion of their products does not mean that I don’t like them. A great source of information about rehab products can be found at the CareCure Forum.

Most of the products that I’ve listed below come from a catalog called Patterson Medical. You can get them through many suppliers, but Patterson Medical has been good about giving discounts when you ask. If you are paying out of your own pocket, be sure to ask for the 30% discount.

If you want to be trained on FES (functional electrical stimulation) bicycle there are several centers around the country all through the suit was. I learned how to use the FES bike at the International Center for Spinal Cord Injury at the Kennedy Krieger Institute in Baltimore, Maryland.
